NTPC considers building a floating solar power plant

the Internet 2018-12-24 14:46:14
According to reports, India's state-owned utility company (NTPC) Ramagundam is considering the establishment of the country's largest floating solar power plant with a capacity of 120 megawatts. The power plant is being planned on the NTPC reservoir on 4,600 acres of land in the suburb of Ramagundam.

Since January 29, 2014, NTPC Ramagundam has established a milestone in the country, generating 10 megawatts of solar energy. It generates approximately 12 million units of electricity per year, reaching 14 million units of electricity, saving 14,000 tons of coal. The solar power plant is distributed in the coal belt area.

According to official sources, floating solar power plants are more efficient than ground-mounted devices due to the regulation of the panel temperature by water bodies. In addition, floating equipment will also reduce water evaporation and save water in the reservoir. The source added that the solar panels will be mounted on an iron cement float and the interior will be hollow to allow it to float.

It is understood that the NTPC Ramagundam Reservoir stores about 7 trillion feet of water and covers an area of over 4,600 acres.
