Britain offers £100 million for renewable energy projects in South Africa
Funding commitments from representatives from more than 190 countries met in Poland to enrich the commitments under the 2015 Paris Agreement to keep global temperatures rising below 2 degrees Celsius this century.
The UK will invest its money in a so-called renewable energy performance platform designed to support renewable energy projects such as solar, wind and hydro energy in sub-Saharan Africa.
The UK Energy Minister said in a statement that the funds will provide electricity to hundreds of thousands of people for the first time.
The UK's Department of Commerce, Energy and Industrial Strategy said in a statement that £100 million will help fund up to 40 projects and provide electricity to 2.4 million people a year.
The statement also revealed that the funds were previously £48 million promised by the UK to the REPP.
