French renewable energy developer Neoen installed a 16.3 megawatt photovoltaic array on a parking lot in Corbas, France. Covering an area of 12.5 hectares with 4,600 industrial parking spaces, this facility is currently the largest parking lot project in France.
Juliette Moutarlier, project manager at Neoen, said that the popularity and planning of French solar carports are expanding. “They are chosen by many logistics centers and parking operators to earn a greener image, local energy output and new sources of revenue for these operators.”
The Corbas project cost 19.1 million euros and the construction took only 5 months. This equipment will sell 19.5 GWh of electricity per year to the grid, while the French government set an on-grid price of 0.102 euros/kWh.
Another primary advantage of solar carports is that they do not alter the usefulness of the land at the facility location. And this isFranceIt is important because French regulators and the public are very picky about how PV integrates into natural landscapes. For example, in some areas of the country, ground-based solar equipment has now been opposed. But so far, no one has heard anyone blaming or complaining about installing solar panels in their parking lots.
