Ireland's 140MW energy storage capacity plan begins tendering in February

the Internet 2019-01-12 10:16:26
The Renewable Energy Directive implemented by the EU in 2009 requires the EU's renewable energy ratio to reach 20% by 2020. To achieve this goal, Ireland's renewable energy target is 16%, which also sets a sub-goal that requires 12% of thermal energy and 40% of electricity from renewable sources.

Under ambitious goals, Ireland will accelerate its development of solar and wind energy. Energy storage can provide services that can increase reliability and stability, and can also cut peaks and fill valleys to reduce the problem of abandoned wind and light.

Ireland has recognized the important role of energy storage in supporting solar and wind energy development, and the storage of energy into the grid is accelerating.

In March 2018, Ireland's Commission forRegulation of Utilities announced a new grid-connected policy to better meet the demand for a large number of renewable energy resources in response to grid tendering. The first phase of EnduringConnectionPolicy (ECP) has accepted 317 MW of energy storage projects. In September 2018, Ireland released the first capacity auction for the "DeliveringaSecureSustainableElectricitySystem" (DS3) program. With the grid continuing to include more renewable energy resources, the main purpose of the DS3 program is to provide safe, stable and efficient management measures. The auction will purchase 140MW of energy storage capacity, mainly used in auxiliary services, and will begin tendering in February 2019.

After 2030, Ireland will continue to increase renewable energy access and greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, and expect large-scale deployment of energy storage nationwide. On May 18-20, 2019, at the Energy Storage International Summit & Exhibition 2019, we are honored to invite Peter Duffy, President of the Irish Energy Storage Association, to present the fast-growing Irish energy storage market and share Ireland. How to use energy storage technology to support the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
